Comparison of Indian and Mediterranean Diet
Comparison of Indian and Mediterranean DietINDIAN DIET OVER MEDITERRANEAN DIET 13 MARCH 2017IntroductionIn nutrition, the destination nourishmenting refers to the inhalant of adequate quantity of essential nutrients which are live for the personnelive functioning of the body and various metabolic mechanisms. Humans, in general commit an omnivorous diet but the dietary pattern of people vary in accordance with the character and personal diet preferences. The selective dietary deportment among people led to the emergence of various type of diet categories such as ketogenic diet, fruitarian diet, vegan diet, pescetarian diet and carnivorous diet.Mediterranean diet emphasizes on the intake of industrial plant based solid foods, healthy fats such as canola and olive crude oil, alcohol in moderate quantity, fish and poultry instead of red meat which is considered to be a balanced health diet and the Indian diet includes a higher proportion of carbohydrates. The essay specific totallyy focuses on comparing the dietary pattern of Indian and Mediterranean diet.Literature reviewMediterranean dietMediterranean diet refers to the traditional dietary pattern that is highly practiced in the Mediterranean region. The traditional Mediterranean emphasize on the higher consumption of fruits and nuts, legumes, unprocessed cereals, minimal consumption of meat and dairy products. Adefinition to Mediterranean diet was first make by Ancel Keys as the diet which is low in saturated fats and high in vegetable oils which was initially observed in Greece and Southern region of Italy. Olive oil constitutes the key element in the Mediterranean diet and the monounsaturated fatty acid and antioxidant content in olive has found to exhibit profound effect in the control of coronary heart diseases, various cancers and age-related cognitive disorders(Keys, 1995). Olive oil comprises about 55-85% of monounsaturated oleic acid content and fatty in antioxidant compounds such as vitami n E and a range of phenolic compounds such as hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol and complex phenolic compounds (Visioli Galli, 2001). The unique feature regarding the Mediterranean diet when compared with other healthy diets is that it limits the intake of alcohol during meal and the source of fat in the Mediterranean diet are Virgin olive oil, tree nuts and fatty fish. Another key member of the Mediterranean diet is the legume which has proven to lower the incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD). Legumes are composed of larger proportion of bean protein and wet soluble fibres and serves as a good source of proteins, vitamins, minerals, omega-3 fatty acids and non-starch polysaccharides. Fish is another prime ingredient of the Mediterranean diet which is a rich people source of long chain omega-3 fatty acids and chats a lot of health benefits. Alcohol intake pattern in the Mediterranean diet has intimately decreased the mortality rate. Recent research studies have shown that the tradi tional Mediterranean diet reduces the incidence of breast cancer, Parkinsons disease, Alzheimers disease and cardiac diseases(Trichopoulou et al., 2014).South Indian dietThe Indian traditional foods are referred to as functional foods as it includes functional components such as body-healing chemicals, dietary fibres and probiotic constituents in it. The functional properties are enhanced via food processing techniques such as sprouting, malting and fermentation. The typical dietary pattern of south India includes the grain-based foods such as idly, Dosa (fermented foods), white or brown rice, dhals such as toor, urad, Bengal guanine and mung, animal protein foods include fish, chicken, lamb, mutton and eggs, green and starchy vegetables, fruit or fruit juices, desserts such as kheer made from reduced milk and white sugar, jilebi , appam and Pongal made from brown sugar based cooked rice and lentils and desserts made out of jaggery such as Halwa (MISRA, 2011).The grain-based foods have a high calorific value and confer a lot of health benefits when included in diet. Idly and dosa falls under the category of fermented food products prepared from rice and black gram by steam cooking. Fermentation process enhances the nutritionary and protein efficiency value and the fermentative bacteria is capable of synthesising vitamin B12 and beta-galactosidase enzyme which promotes the promotes the probiotic activity and confer health benefits. Idly is more digestible delinquent to fermentation process and is widely consumed as breakfast meal. The food stuff that is widely consumed for lunch include the rice meal which include the rice, dahi (Indian yogurt), Non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes. The rice meal is rich in carbohydrates , Vegetable dishes such as Sambar ( mixed vegetable curry), Rasam ,Vazhai poo poriyal which is prepared out of small chopped pieces of banana floret flavour with green chilly, mustard, onion and coconut which is highly nutritious and is ef fective against diabetes and heart burn , Non-vegetarian dishes are prepared out of red meat which are rich gravies composed of saturated fats and salts , dahi or Indian yogurt is rich in B-complex vitamins, folic acid and riboflavin and lactic acid bacteria which exhibit probiotic effect and controls looseness in children . The dinner preparation includes the chapatti (indian bread) which is made out of wheat flour and fish gravy (indian style fish curry). Wheat is highly nutritious repayable to its high content of protein and fibre. Similarly, the fish used in the diet is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, proteins and minerals which makes it an ample diet as it confers a lot of health benefits. (Sarkar, Dhumal, Panigrahi, Choudhary, 2015)Comparative study of Indian diet with Mediterranean diet and other diets(Trichopoulou et al., 2014)Oil usedIn India cooking oils differ region wise, certain(p) mono unsaturated fatty acid like ground nut oil, mustard oil and rice bran oil commonly used in India has similar nutritionary properties to olive oil which is widely used in the Mediterranean. However, oils used in India dont show any impact on the cardio-protectiveness though certain studies on the usage of mustard oil shows 50% reduction in the risk of ischemic heart diseases. Whereas usage of rice barn oil shows effect on hypolipidemia and further studies on these oils also show positive effects on the cardiovascular health. Despite the positive effects of olive oil, it is not considerably used in India payable to the traditional cooking methods, availability and the cost of olive oil. Olive oil not being an indigenous is not commonly available and is quite expensive making it less popular however subsidises provided from the Agricultural ministry on olive oil and olive cultivation along with its nutritional facts is developing interest among people in India.Fruits and VegetablesMediterranean diets key factor is the high consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables . Indian diet shows low consumption in fruit and vegetables compared to Mediterranean diet despite India being the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables in the world. The main(prenominal) reasons noted for low consumption of fruits and vegetables are availability, affordability and lack of awareness. betimes start, multi- component interventions and subsidies on growing and storing of fruits and vegetables may offer supportable solutions on promoting intake of fruits and vegetables in India.LegumesAnother important Mediterranean diet is the consumption of legumes. Legumes reduces the coronary heart disease risk and is high in protein and fibre. Legumes are also found to be rich in vitamins, minerals, omega-3 fatty acids and non-starch polysaccharides. Even though Indian diet contains a legume it is not up to the ideal consumption levels. India has a high production rate of legumes despite the intake levels, this is due to the cost factor. The challenge lies in increasin g production rate at a lower cost, which makes legumes cheap for everyone in India.Fish Fish plays a vital role in Mediterranean diet, due to its long chain omega 3 fatty acids(n-3) it is known for being very heart healthy. Fish intake ratio in India depends from region to region considerably, whereas it is widely consumed in the Mediterranean. Alternate source of n-3 in India is commonly nuts, flax seeds and mustard oil, but it contains shorter chains of n-3 compared to fish.DrinksMediterranean diet consists of mainly wine as drink, whereas in India whiskey and beer are highly consumed instead of wine. The consumption pattern of alcohol also varies between the Mediterranean and India, for eccentric in India alcohol is consumed before food as compared to the Mediterranean where it is consumed along with food. This pattern and the type of alcohol consumed has effects on the risk of CVD.Meat uplifted CVD risk is associated with red meat intake, people following Mediterranean diet us ually consumes less red meat. The United Nation food and Agricultural institution reported a rise in meat consumption in India, this shows there is change in the usual dietary preferences. Religion plays a main part in meat diet in India, Hindus usually avoid beef and Muslims avoid pork among the non-vegetarian population in India. The comparison of Mediterranean and Indian diet is elucidated in table 1SummaryThe Mediterranean diet shows it is a balanced diet all together, whereas the diet particularly followed in India has all the required nutrients but doesnt meet the required standard to meet a complete nutritional balanced diet. This can be mainly noted due to regional food being more available than the others and as well as the fact of affordability of certain food items, pattern of dietary consumption in India also does play a role in it. Despite this the constituents of the Mediterranean diet plays separate roles in their relationship with one another and with the items which are consumed on board with the diet. Therefore, fusing Mediterranean diet with the traditional Indian food processing methods followed in the Indian diet to create mixed dishes could affect few of the preventive and nutritional benefits that Mediterranean diet alone holds, and this could also lead to increased risk of CVD substantially. Thus, successful dietary interventions should be implemented mainly for the patterns of diet followed instead of having degage nutrients along with usual diet, hence aiding to develop an ample, stable and nutritional diet. The Ministry should also see to it that there are enough food items available at affordable rates so that adequate portions of food is consumed, thus meeting the ample nutritional standards in the diet.References Keys, A. New American Mindset :: essays research papers
Long-term social, stinting, and political policies fostered by Britain before 1750 thoroughly impacted the developing American mind gravel. These fundamentals, such as legislative assemblies, commerce laws, and religious events, provided the solid ground for what was to become an independent American nation. This sovereign and unique culture, which developed slowly inside the thirteen colonies, can be greatly attributed to the continuous policy, protection, and influence that Britain provided. The insufficiency of unity inside the thirteen colonies led to a little political basis for a national consciousness of any sort. But, the three thousand miles that garbled England, also created a huge lapse of royal governmental influence. Therefore, for the most part, the colonies were independent from one another and loosely affiliated with their mother country. Although each dependance had a governor (who was appointed by the king,) the legislative houses ran by the colonists possessed the most significant amounts of power. Not much could be done about this copiousness of American freedom however. As John Garraty states, it was nearly impossible for British deputys to have any sort of influence because they were prisoners of their own surroundings. Even the Privy Council, (which was set up to advise the king about colonial matters,) could not formulate a policy for the colonists as a whole. Therefore, as the American society progressed and developed, these well-functioning representative institutions played an important role. Dating as far back as the Plymouth settlers, the colonies generally conducted themselves without much outside interference. In this way, they developed individually, and established the right of self-government. These fundamentals, which were created cod to the absence of a British governmental policy, changed the path of the American colonial society, and still lie at the center of the democratic framework that exists today. The prerequi site to the organization of the American colonies was the recognition that their sole purpose was to satisfy the needs of their mother country Britain. This idea of mercantilism had a profound effect on the economic growth of the thirteen colonies. The colonies were generally dumping grounds for surpluses, as well as a place to find raw materials, which would ultimately lead to an income of gold. In order to achieve these goals, Britain passed a series of Navigation Acts, beginning in 1650. Home / Identity Essay -- science
Home / IdentityThe word home base is something that is often misunderstood. Home makes up your identity and not many lot know that. Therefore you ask me, what is home? Home is not just in your house. Home is a place that surrounds you. Its you environment and cause for emotions. Your home is where you are with the people that surround you (peers, family, and strangers), as well as cars, houses, stores, and/or toys. All of these things (people, buildings, playful objects, and nature) are the components that make up a home. Some people dont have all of those things in their home though. A homeless man has no house to operate in whereas a blue man has a beautiful house to his or her accommodations as well as anything that will make him or her happy. This also explains the question, where is home? Home has no exact place to be. Your home can be on the opposite side of someone elses home. You can even share the same home with family members that live with you, even though they see it different than you. That is because you dont share the same emotions. Emotions are expressed differently through each person because of their emotional state experiences. A young child could be laughed at at school, while their brother or sister(s) isnt laughed at. The result for that is that they could live in the same home, just be different people in their personalities. The word personalities is often mixed up with the word identity. The way a person is treated affects their personalit...

amazon com Essay -- essays research papers
Have you ever purchased any product on the net income, used the Internet to collect information or data, or played computer games on the Internet? You must agree that it is fast, easy, and enjoyable. The Internet has been a part of our daily sprightliness for several years now. In addition, in the business world, a new business model, E-business and E-commerce, has appeared for several years. consort to Ali, there are two main types of E-commerce B2B and B2C (2000). 1 is business to business (B2B). This means that enterprises use the Internet to transact or trade between business operations and their partners. An otherwise is business to consumer (B2C). In other words, enterprises provide products, support good, and services to the customers on the Internet. amazon.com is a famous Internet retail company in E-commerce. Its business includes B2B and B2C. It opened its business in July 1996. Today, Amazon.com has spread out its business in more than two hundred and twenty countri es and this company sells various products like electronics, books, music, DVD, House wares, PCs and cars (Amazon.com Announces 4th Quarter Profit 2002). It is the biggest retail breed in E-commerce. Even though Amazon.com owns these accolades, this company is struggling to survive. Amazon.com had a $19 billion trade value before its rail line prices decreased from $75.25 to $9.25 (German, 2001). The problem is that Amazon still has not made accredited internet since it opened. How to help Amazon.com keep standing on the stage? If Amazon.com wants to survive in E-business and start do real profits, Amazon.com should merge with other retail companies, operate a new E-business strategy, and rebuild its financial structure.Everyone is wondering when Amazon.com will start making real profits. Last year, their stock price went down from $76 to $14 (Hahn & Celarier, 2001). Moreover, Amazon.com lost almost $150 one million million million last year (Amazon.com announces 4th quarter profit, 2001). How can Amazon.com start making real profits? Hahn & Celarier suggests that Amazon.com should merge with other retail companies such as General Growth Properties, Wal-Mart, and Bertelsmann because the merger will expand their market share, and create a new passageway and increase new customers and products , and recover their cash and Net sales loss (Fitch, 2000).First of all, the merger will help Amazon.com expand the market ... ...ve a good system or body in E-commerce. Since the so-called internet bubble burst in April 2000, hundreds of dotcom companies have closed because of the recession of E-commerce (Misek, 2003). According to Seewald, That trend is expected to continue this year as chemical companies continue to cut back on external spending (2001). E-business seems like a dud for investors and customers because the speed of collapse is very fast. No one knows which company will disappear in E-business. Even though Amazon.com is an E-commerce Pioneer, and it earned $1.12 billion last quarter, compared with $972 million in the fourth quarter in 2000, and has $19 billion market value (Amazon.com Announces 4th Quarter Profit 2002), it is also struggling to survive in the E-commerce world. Unless Amazon.com merge with other retail companies, practice new E-commerce strategy, and rebuild its financial structure, it will not be eliminated through competition in the E-commerce. Marking profits is the most important for company, especially for Amazon.com. If Amazon.com exercises these proposals presented in this paper, it will overcome its challenges and weaknesses, and then start making real profits.
Juvenile Criminals Should Not Be Tried as Adults :: Juvenile Crime Jail Prison Essays
Juvenile Criminals Should Not Be Tried as AdultsToday?s court system is left with many difficult decisions. One of the nearly controversial being whether to try juveniles as openhandeds or not. With the number of children in adult prison houses and jails rising rapidly, questions be being asked as to why children have been committing such heinous crimes and how will they be stopped. The fact of the matter is that it is not always the childrens fault for their poor choices and actions they are merely a victim of their environment or their parents. Another question asked is how young is too young. Children who are too young to see an R rated film unaccompanied are being sent to adult prisons. The only boundaries that seem to matter when it comes to being an adult are laws that restrain kids from things such as alcohol, pornography, and other materials seen as unethical. Children that are sent to adult prison are going to be subjected to even more unprincipled ideas and scenes. When children can be sent to jail for something as minor as a pause and grab burglary, the judicial system has errors. The laws that send juveniles to adult prisons are inhumane, immoral, and un meet. Kids are often incompetent, which leads to unfair trials. Adult prisons are also very dangerous for minors, and in many cases this leads to more juvenile crimes.People support sending juveniles to adult prisons for many reasons. One reason is that it is the job of the courts to help protect society. Once a troubled juvenile is sent to an adult prison, they are out of the way of society. Hopefully when they re-enter, the punishments they received will be imprinted in their brain and stop them from do any wrong once again. Another reason people think that disturbed youth cannot be saved is that punishment will not save them from themselves and they just need to be locked up forever. It is thought to be true that juveniles who are sent to jail will not commit the same crime again or even a ny crimes at all. All the reasons and opinions that say that juveniles should be sent to adult prisons for their heinous crimes seem logical. Despite this, they are not. There are more rational reasons why adolescents should be sent to their own private penitentiary. One of the reasons for sending juveniles to a separate prison than
